April 6 – Centsational Party
Hi everyone, happy Easter! Planning a party this weekend? After a cold long winter, spring is really worth celebrating. Since I just wrapped up an afternoon high tea / evening bbq, thought I would share a bit about my 2 cents towards a centsational party, one that’s friendly to the environment and your pocket!
Throwing a party shouldn’t be dreading and draining, the point is to entertain and have fun with people we care about. To me, the three main ingredients to a perfect party are: simple food, complementing drinks, and a load of laughters… You don’t even have to make those food if you don’t want to, just grab some dishes from your favorite grocery store. Sometimes even wc (wine and cheese, not water closet) or bp (beer and popcorn) can simply be enough. Remember, be a classy host, not a messy one.
A theme or some coordinating decor can make a simple party extra special, it helps with choosing the food and drinks too. However, you don’t always have to dash off to stores to buy party supplies and then feel bad when you run out of room to store them, or worse, when you have to throw them out. Look around the house, and you will be surprise how many versatile things you have lying around. For example, if you don’t have a cake stand, simply put a plate on top of a martini glass or a dipping bowl. You can even do a row of both, adding some dimension to your decor.
If you really love to entertain, pay attention to some items at the dollar store where you use again and again in different ways. I love this square artificial grass from Dollarama:
I can picture it being used as a table runner, a coaster, a decor fence on shopping window, a lollipop / cake pop stand, a favor holder, etc. and that’s just my imaginations, you have yours too. The sky is the limit. For my spring high tea, I used them as my table runner / coaster.
But I think it works just well as a favor holder for a baby shower around Easter time!
Another thing is the cute favor eggs you see in the picture, you can fill them up with any kind of favor, say… for Easter chocolate, candies, little toys (i call them: egg stuffers! haha!) or even popcorns if you are planning a baby shower with “Ready to Pop” theme. Guests would have fun popping the egg for some popcorns. It works not only for Easter theme party, it is also suitable for any theme that has to do with eggs, like Dinosaurus or Ready to Hatch.
So, you may ask, “Hmm… I still need to store them somewhere, no?” Yes, for sure if you want to reuse them. And not sure about you, I surely do not have a lot of space in my house to store things. So, I box some (like those fragile bone china which I have no hutch to showcase them in
) and mask the others somewhere around the house. Like this one – my high tea 3-tier cake stand becomes a spice / fruit stands on my kitchen counter on daily basis.
And back to the eggs, the beauty about them is that if you have some left over, get an egg box (you know you throw a lot of those out often, now you can start saving some!) or even a mini cupcake baking tray, put these eggs upside down, and TADAA!! Help yourself to some organizers… pins! clips! stickers! embelishments! If you like to craft, like me, you know that we can never have too many organizers… :p
So… party, save, and be merry!
